Indian Air Force candidates are divided into three sections or Branches. While filling up the application form itself, the candidate is enabled to choose the duty that he wants to offer.

AFCAT Salary Definition
The Pay scale of each branch differs in structure as defined by IAF.
A Flying Officer is racked in Pay Band (15,600 – 39,100) per month along with Grade Pay, Military Service Pay. Dearness Allowances, Kit Maintenance & Transport Allowance.
Besides this, there are other allowances as well, based on the nature of duty or place of posting like Flying, Technical, Field area, Special compensatory(Hilly area). It also includes Special Force, Siachin, Island Special Duty, Test Pilot & Flight Test Engineer, Area and Remote Locality.
Once you successfully complete the AFCAT assessment, you will be put in either of the three branches based on performance.
- Flying Branch salary – 85,372/-
- Ground Duty (Tech) Branch Salary – 74,872/-
- Ground Duty (Non-tech) Branch Salary – 71,872/-

Other Allowance
- For flying branch 11,500/- rs. as flying allowance.
- For technical officers 2500/- rs. as Technical Allowance.
In Ground Duty Non Technical, Total 4 duties will be there. They are Administration, Logistics, Accounts and Education Duty.
For Ground Duty Technical, only Aeronautical engineers(Electronics and Communication or Mechanical) are there.
Allowances in IAF
In addition to Grade Pay, the officers are entitled to get paid the following allowances.
- Military Service Pay
- Dearness Allowance(DA)
- Transport Allowance
- Allowances based on type of duty such as Flying, Technical and Ground duty
- Allowance depending on area of posting like Field area, Special Compensatory Hill area,Special Force, Siachin, Island Special Duty, Test Pilot & Flight Test Engineer, Hard Area Allowance, Remote Locality

- Comprehensive medical cover for self and dependents

- Officers’ mess facilities and many more
LTC and leave (60 days annual and 20 days casual) subject to service exigency.
Insurance
Once you complete the training successfully on time, you will get insurance coverage. In fact, 75 Lakh Insurance Cover (on contribution) is applicable to commissioned officers. Additional cover of 10 Lakh (on contribution) is applicable to Flying Branch Officers explicitly.
