I have strained every nerve and done all sorts of experiments in my college days, ranging from co-founding a non profit organisation (YMT) to jumping into multiple start-ups which were quasi successful. And believe me, that was most learning time for me. Whatever i learnt in those days, still giving me an edge over fellow workers.
However, i regret my decision of leaving my dream start-up for an IT job, that too when we had 200+ paid clients. I shall discuss this part of life someday later. I’m kinda settle now.
Lets jump back to point and stick to our agenda which is to help you make a conclusion whether you should wait for off campus job or try hard for on campus job.

On campus or Off campus Job?
All the novice job searcher out there, First of all, let me brief you about basic difference b/w on campus and off campus job.
It’s pretty simple, if company is coming to your campus for recruitment where no other college students are allowed to participate then it is said to be on campus and if you are traveling to some other location/college/university to attend recruitment drive then it is called off campus drive.
here i shall not advise you on whether to join IT companies or core companies or so and so on. The crux of discussion will be only about job venue selection.
Let me quote some figures to make my point more comprehensive, As per DAZEInfo report around 2 million engineer students are passing out and only 20-30% are actually able to get placed in on-campus job which is part of major hiring for any company. Now rest, those who are left, will be fighting to win the job in off campus placement which rarely happens and that too for few posts.
Now imagine 70-80% graduates remain jobless every year. That’s scary. When you pass out with this fear of not getting job then you will find it even more difficult to lend suitable job.
If you are serious about getting job just after college then it is highly advisable to try your best for an on campus placement drive.
There are several advantages of on campus job such as,
- You don’t have to travel much to reach your venue
- Placement coordinator and other procedures are familiar to you which boosts your confidence.
- There will be less crowd in on campus drive as compare to off campus job so it is easy to fight and win you seat.
- Only genuine companies come to on campus drive.
There are few things which you can do to perform better in placement drive, again tips are based on my personal experience, no air talks.
- Improve your communication skill, there is no substitute of it.
- Read English Newspaper daily without miss, period!
- Go through basics of your technical course, you don’t have to run down deep and dig the dead bodies. Just basic will be suffice.
- Build Confidence and convincing loudness in voice.
That’s all on Why Campus Placement is must for freshers.
All the best guys!
